Ever since the beginning, bulthaup has based its inspiration and innovation on ergonomics, functionality, and authentic materials of the finest quality. A command of space, attention to detail, the wisdom of everyday gestures, the mystery of humble actions, and the secret of simple things together make bulthaup projects unique. These bulthaup values adapt to all sorts of different projects–including affordable solutions for small places.

“The specificity of simple things is the essence of greatness.”Otl Aicher

In 2013, bulthaup held the first bulthaup access competition to acknowledge the work of architects and designers in Spain, Portugal, and Andorra at an event that awards professionals who show vision and excellence in conceiving living spaces: those places where people live, share, cook, and enjoy their friends, their family, and their daily lives.

The jury panel–composed of Iván Cuní from bulthaup Iberia, Leopold Bautista from bulthaup Girona, Josep Boix from bulthaup Sant Cugat, interior designer Ignasi Bonjoch, and architects Jordi Badia, Arturo Frediani, and Assumpció Puig–decided to grant the following awards:

First bulthaup access 2013 award to:

Jordi Queralt Suau + La Boqueria (Oriol Antolín, Ricard Grau, and Alfons Tornero) for:

Ca’s Bouer, Blanes.

  • For the best solution in creating a living space according to the four criteria set in the competition terms and conditions: utility value (ergonomics, technique), design quality (function, construction, innovation), integration within the residence as a whole (context, presence), and skill in turning the kitchen into the heart of the home.

First honorable mention:

  • To architects Recuna & Dapena, for their A House on the Beach project; granted for the versatility of its uses, the warmth of its atmosphere, and its combination of materials–wood, stone, and the color white.

Second honorable mention:

  • To architect Ricard Turón for his Our House, Quart, Girona project. His design of a large kitchen at an affordable price included a highly participative island with cooking and preparation elements as well as a bar counter.

Additional mentions:

  • Architect Manuel Jorreto for the project A House on the Miño, in Ourense.
  • Architects Recuna & Dapena for the project rueiro27c.
