Ceci n’est pas une “croqueta“

As part of the upcoming Barcelona Design Week 2014, bulthaup Greek, jointly with the IED Design School, will be holding a workshop to explore one of the latest trends in gastronomy: Food Design.

On June 11 and 12, they will explore the different elements that make up the innovative discipline of Food Design at a workshop held at bulthaup Greek with Pep Pujol and Ivan Merino from Biscuits (a team of designers of new gastronomic concepts and products related to the pleasure of eating and coordinators of the IED Event Food Design postgraduate program).

The workshop will include two sessions, one for the general public (June 11) and another one aimed at cooking and design professionals (June 12).

Three main themes will be explored:

1. EAT ME: define a concept, research it, and find the appropriate product. Lecture held by the coordinators.

2. DRINK ME: play and experiment with the launch of a new food product and finally create an event that will become a true gastronomic experience.

3. PLAY ME: gastronomic jam session.

Industrial designers and chefs, led by Biscuits, will playfully research the breaded and fried meat-and-béchamel balls known as croquetas to find “the ideal croqueta.”

La croquette de Proust… and Mr. Hyde’s, too!

Croquetas were chosen as the narrative thread for the event, given their intrinsic emotional and playful features: in Spain, the best croqueta is your grandmother’s (mine, hers, yours…); croquetas are associated with childhood–an all-time kids’ favorite–and when Spaniards grow up, they keep on coming across them at cocktail parties (overfried, greasy, with many different, barely identifiable flavors.)

What is obvious is that croquetas never leave you indifferent and always lead to heated discussions as to what the Perfect Croqueta really is.

Program

Wednesday, June 11. Yes, you may play with your food.

For the general public

16:00 – 17:00     Eat me: introductory lecture

17:15 – 20:15    Drink me: hands-on design workshop in Event Food Design, prior to developing a catering event aimed at becoming a memorable personal experience. The goal of the workshop is to highlight the emotional element in catering and raise awareness of how closely emotions are linked to food.

This playful gastronomic jam session will bring together designers such as Helena Rohner, sommelier and wine consultant Nuria Giramí, and architect and gourmet Iñaki Baquero.

13:00 – 13:30    Final tasting session

Participants will receive a Perfect Croqueta gift kit.
